1940s
- Skirts almost to the ankle
- Sweaters with collared shirts underneath
- Ankle socks with Oxford shoes
1950s
- Skirt length started to rise up the calf
- The collared shirts and sweaters started to be more fitted
- Cheerleading became a co-ed affair
Early 1960s
- This decade began the trend of the pleated cheerleading shirt
- Long sleeves were worn under vests
- This is when cheerleaders started to wear white sneakers with bunched white socks at the top
Late 1960s
- The pleated skirt evolved and started to look similar to styles that we see today
- Long sleeve shirts were worn under tight-fitted vests
- Longer hairstyles were starting to be seen
Early 1970s
- Short skirts way above the knee were introduced
- Trend of short sleeve sweaters to avoid the two layered top
- Pom Poms were bigger than ever
Mid-1970s
- Skirts were still short, but they reverted back to the multi-colored pleat trend
- Tops became long sleeve again, hoever the two layers were avoided by combing creating a long sleeve tight-fitted top
1980s
- The skirts were still short
- The tops became sleeveless for the first time and more loose fitted
- The top and skirt of the uniform were coordinated
1990s
- Skirts stayed short
- Tops continued to be sleeveless but the fit became tighter
- Similar to the look in 1980s but modernized
2000s
- Skirts eliminated the pleats and became tighter fitter
- Tops reverted back to long sleevees
- Bows were seen in most all cheerleaders hairstyles
2010s
- Skirts are shorter than ever
- Tops resemble the look of a crop top, exposing the whole middle section of the body
- The outfits are more revealing than ever
